Robert Butcher – Perfoming a selection of works for piano (Free event)

Reading based pianist and composer Robert Butcher performs a selection of his compositions for solo piano. A student of music at Peter Symonds College, Winchester and Sussex University, the listener can expect short form pieces inspired by the preludes of Rachmaninoff and Chopin. His compositions are reminiscent of earlier romantic era works whilst still residing in a neo-classical style. Robert Butcher shuns the atonalism and harsh dissonance so prevalent in recent modern classical compositions. Taking inspiration from the Rachmaninoff quote: “The new kind of music seems to create not from the heart but from the head. Its composers think rather than feel.” Robert Butcher aims to compose music that is both engaging and listenable.
