Reading Minster Choir
Reading Minster Choir (boys’ voices) sings at the 11:15 Choral Eucharist on the second and fourth Sundays of the month and for Choral Evening Prayers or Evensong at 16:15 on the third Sunday (during term time). They also sing for major festivals, such as Christmas and Easter, and for other special services and concerts. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 17:00 and 19:00 (during term time).
The choir offers a unique opportunity for boys aged approximately 7-13 who live in and around Reading to develop musical, social and educational skills, as well as the knowledge and experience necessary to become a successful chorister and musician. As well as singing as part of a choir, the boys also receive singing and theory lessons and this is made possible because of a grant from the Bernarr Rainbow Trust.
In addition to rehearsals, services and concerts, there are a range of social activities, such as football matches against other choirs, bowling, laser quest, cinema visits and an annual residential weekend, when the boys sing the services at one of the UK’s great cathedrals.
If you have a child or know of someone who would be interested in becoming a chorister then please contact Peter West, the Choirmaster, by emailing music@readingminster.org.uk.
Mid-Week Choir
The Mid-Week Choir (mixed voices) was founded in 1997 by Seymour Norman (1937- 2009), a former Exeter Cathedral chorister. It sings Choral Evensong on alternate Wednesdays at 18:15, as well as other special services, such as an annual carol service. The choir rehearses on alternate Wednesdays from 19:00 until 21:00.
If you are interested in joining the choir then please contact music@readingminster.org.uk.
